Internet Guidelines for Kids


  1. Do not put your information on the web. You do not know who is out there or what they could do with that information. Some sites/programs you may be required to use may need some information that could be deemed personal, ( credit card #,address, or phone number) in these cases make sure your parents read the page with you, and that the are aware and agree with you sharing such information.
  2. Don’t give out your address, phone number, or any other personal information online.
  3. Passwords are sensitive information, don’t share it with anyone other than your parents. If you think your password has been compromised, change it.
  4. Check the site’s privacy policy settings and whenever possible keep them from sharing your information with a third party.
  5. Do not put anything on the web that you would not want your family, friends, etc. to see- that includes pictures.
  6. Don’t post any inappropriate images or offensive comments online, it could get you in legal trouble and/or trouble with your school.
  7. Tell your parents right away if  you come across something that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
  8. Be sure to stay on only appropriate and approved sites when in school and at home.  Make sure to log in as yourself and to ALWAYS log yourself off so no one can use your username.
  9. Understand that sometimes you may know more about an app or game that you are using.  Educate your parents on exactly what it is and how to use it so they can better appreciate what you are doing and help decide if it is ok to use. http://www.safekids.com/kids-rules-for-online-safety
